Malappuram: The tribal fund that was intended to build homes for the Vanavasis of Attappady was looted by a CPI leader. CPI Malappuram district committee member and Nilambur counsellor P.M. Basheer has been accused by the people and enraged protests are going on against him. Basheer has taken away Rs 1,28500 from each account.

Basheer took away money from the people of Bhutivazhi, Attappady who then transferred to his own account. After receiving complaints, the ITDP project officer sent a letter to Malappuram SP seeking investigation on the case. But the people seem to be homeless as the construction of their houses are incomplete and is, therefore, asking to speed up the investigation and take action against the leader immediately.

A contract for the construction of houses on the basis of Tribal schemes was signed by the tribal families under the directions of a resident of Nilambur named Abdul Gaffoor. Under this contract, Basheer took all the Vanavasi family to the banks and indirectly transferred all the money to his own account. The leader looted the money that comes under the scheme of Life Mission.
