Thiruvananthapuram: Sreejith Panickar, a prominent political critic, has taken a dig at the Kerala government’s announcement of insufficient funds to conduct the SSLC examination. Panickar mocked the government’s priorities, suggesting that while they claim to lack funds for conducting essential exams, they are eager to bring back students who have gone abroad.
Mocking the government’s stance, Panickar took to Facebook, saying what if there is no money to conduct the SSLC exam, we will definitely bring back the students who went abroad. He was referring to the recent government’s statements that it would do try to stem the flow of students abroad for higher studies by allowing foreign universities in Kerala. However, the government backtracked on this decision after criticisms arose against it from other left parties in the government.
The Education Department recently announced a shortfall in funds for SSLC, IT exams, and Higher Secondary exams. They directed schools to utilize their daily expense funds for conducting these exams, with the assurance of reimbursement once government funds become available.
For the academic year 2022-23, the expenses for Higher Secondary exams amounted to Rs 21 crore, VHSE Rs 11 crore, and SSLC IT exams Rs 12 crore, totaling Rs 44 crores in outstanding dues. This latest directive comes amid existing outstanding dues, prompting further scrutiny of the government’s financial management.
