Thiruvananthapuram: Even though the applicants had paid postal fees, they now face the necessity of directly collecting vital documents like Driving Licences and Registration Cards (RCs) from the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department. According to reports, the Motor Vehicle Department is planning to release an order requiring the collection of RCs and Driving Licences directly from the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTO) due to the state’s financial crisis. Consequently, those who have registered their vehicles in other districts will need to visit the respective districts for collection. The Kerala government is planning to release an order to implement this new directive soon.
An amount of Rs. 45 was charged for sending the Driving Licence and RCs to the applicants. The minister himself has stated that currently, 3.80 lakh licenses and 3.50 lakh RCs need to be distributed.
KB Ganesh Kumar, Minister for Kerala State Transport, confirmed that there is a backlog of 3.80 lakh licenses and 3.50 lakh RCs that need to be distributed. The government has collected around Rs. 3.25 crore from the applicants for sending the RCs and Licences.
Reports suggest that the government’s plan is to deliver them to the RTOs through the KSRTC Courier service and distribute them directly to the applicants from there.
