Thiruvananthapuram: Railway gates across the state are undergoing a transition to an automatic system, aimed at enhancing safety in rail transportation and streamlining operational processes. The shift to automation will significantly reduce the physical workload of gatekeepers.
The automatic system has been successfully implemented at Nalukulangara and TD railway gates within the Thuravoor-Ernakulam reach under the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division. Furthermore, the signaling system at Thuravoor has been upgraded to automatic operation. Madurai marks the first railway station within the Southern Railway limits to adopt this system.
The introduction of automatic signaling systems will necessitate changes in the conventional signaling methods managed by station masters. About Rs. 10 crores have been allocated for the automation of the two gates at Thuravoor and the signaling system upgrade.
