Wuhan: The deadly Coronavirus originated from Wuhan city in China has by far killed 17 people and over 570 are infected with the epidemic. Wuhan has a population of 11 million.
Scientist Leo Poon first decoded the virus, and believes that it started in an animal and spread to humans.
“What we know is it causes pneumonia and then doesn’t respond to antibiotic treatment, which is not surprising, but then in terms of mortality, Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) kills 10% of the individuals,” CNN quoted Poon, a virologist at the School of Public Health at The University of Hong Kong.
The cases of the virus have also been reported in the US, South Korea, Japan and Thailand.
So far, no treatment has been found and made available, but research is underway.
