Washington D.C.: Hundreds of people protested outside the White House on late Sunday night against the death of African-American man George Floyd. Police resorted to tear gas in order to disperse protesters.
The police used flash bang devices to quell the protesting crowds who had gathered outside US President Donald Trump’s official residence, chanting, lighting fires and holding up protest signs, AFP reporters said.
Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said on Sunday night the curfew would last “from 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, until 6 a.m. on Monday, June 1.”
According to CNN, 40 cities have imposed curfews and approximately 5,000 National Guard members have been activated in 15 states and Washington DC with another 2,000 prepared to activate if needed.
Demonstrators are enraged and have been protesting since May 25, for killing of Floyd who died in Minneapolis last Monday after a police officer knelt on his neck.
