Tokyo: Japan’s longest serving Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe has resigned from the post due to worsening health.
While speaking at a press conference Abe said, ” In June this year, I was told that there were signs of recurrence of my chronic condition called ulcerative colitis, and I did my best at work, while taking medicine.”
“But starting the middle of last month, my physical condition changed and I felt very exhausted. Recurrence of the disease was confirmed at the beginning of this month,” reported Sputnik.
Abe has battled the disease ulcerative colitis for years and two recent hospital visits within a week had fanned questions on whether he could stay in the job until the end of his term as ruling party leader, and hence, premier, in September 2021.
