Islamabad: Striking another blow to Pakistan’s Ex-PM Imran Khan, his close aide and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry resigned from the party on Wednesday in regard of the ongoing crisis in Pakistan. He said that his resignation would be followed by an abstinence from politics for an interval.
Chaudhry tweeted, “My earlier statement where I unequivocally condemned 9th May incidents, I have decided to take a break from politics, therefore, I have resigned from party position and parting ways from Imran Khan.”
Chaudhry served as the Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting during Imran Khan’s regime. He was also the senior vice president and spokesperson for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party (PTI).
Earlier, former human rights minister Shireen Mazari also resigned from Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, criticising the actions of the PTI’s followers who attacked and torched vital defence sites in Pakistan on May 9.
Mazari also announced her retirement from active politics after her arrest on May 12 from her residence in connection with the violent attacks.
The protests on May 9, 2023, took place after the paramilitary Rangers arrested the former PM on account of a corruption case. The arrest sparked violent protests by his followers, and various top leaders of the PTI were arrested too.
