New York: The President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Csaba Korosi, has emphasised the need for enhanced representation in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), specifically urging the inclusion of countries with a greater responsibility for promoting peace and the well-being of people. In an interview on Monday, Korosi praised India’s candidature for the UNSC, acknowledging its belief in contributing to global welfare.
In an interview on Monday, Korosi on India’s candidature for UNSC said, “There is a notion among the member states that we need a better representative in the Security Council, including those countries who have a larger responsibility for peace, a larger responsibility for making well-being for the people, and of course, India among those who believe they can contribute to the well-being of the world. India is perhaps one of the most active advocates for the early reform of the Security Council.”
Korosi stated that in the past, when the UNSC was made at that time, India was not among the “biggest ones”. He further added that the UNSC would reform. Calling out India as a potential superpower country, the UNGA Chief said that in terms of population, economy, science, and technology, India is rapidly rising.
