London: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hailed the UK-India partnership on Wednesday, calling it “a defining one for our times,” informed an official release. These remarks were made in anticipation of the upcoming India Global Forum’s (IGF) flagship event, UK-India Week 2023.
Praising the role of the IGF in fostering closer ties between India and the United Kingdom, Sunak said that the event is a catalyst for forging new trade ties. “India Global Forum’s annual UK-India Week is a highly anticipated fixture in the bilateral calendar of our two great nations. It is a catalyst for forging new trade ties, lasting collaborations, and a better future for our people. I am confident this partnership will be a defining one for our times,” the British PM said.
In response to Sunak’s comments, Manoj Ladwa, founder and chairman of the India Global Forum, emphasised the urgency of forging closer ties between India and the UK, considering the geopolitical shifts and economic uncertainties prevailing in the world.
Last year, as Chancellor, Sunak had stressed the importance of establishing a partnership based on equality during his speech at the IGF’s UK-India Awards. The recent remarks by Prime Minister Sunak indicate his ambitious plans to transform and enhance the relationship between the UK and India, in the backdrop of the 2030 Roadmap agreed upon by both governments and the ongoing negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement, as stated in the release.
