Ottawa: The Indian High Commission in Ottawa solemnly observed the 38th anniversary of the tragic terrorist attack on Air India Flight 182 Kanishka, which claimed the lives of 329 passengers. Described as the “worst-ever” incident in Canadian aviation history, the Indian High Commission stressed that the loss continues to be unbearable for the victims’ families and humanity as a whole.
“On 23 June 1985, Flight no. Al 182 Kanishka flying on Montreal, Canada-London, UK-Delhi,India route, operated by Air India, the then India’s national carrier, exploded mid-air over the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Ireland, as a result of a cowardly act of terror carried out by Canada based Khalistani terrorists,” the High Commission of India in Ottawa said in a statement.
Sanjay Kumar Verma, the High Commissioner of India to Canada, paid tribute to the victims of the Air India Kanishka flight in Ottawa. Family members and the friends of the victims, members of the Canadian Parliament, officials of the Canadian government, including the RCMP Commissioner, and a representative of the Embassy of Ireland participated in the occasion.
