Washington: According to a news report, in a twist of events within the ongoing presidential campaign, former US President Donald Trump has expressed admiration for entrepreneur and rival Vivek Ramaswamy, hinting at the possibility of considering him as a running mate. Donald Trump (77) openly praised his Indian-American rival on Tuesday, commending Ramaswamy’s unorthodox politics and his willingness to endorse the achievements of the 45th president’s administration. Trump’s words were quoted as, “Well, I think he’s great. Look, anybody that said I’m the best president in a generation… I have to like a guy like that,” in an interview.
Notably, during a recent Republican primary debate, Ramaswamy labelled Trump as “the best president of the 21st century” and positioned his candidature as an attempt to elevate the former president’s policies to a higher level. Throughout his campaign, Ramaswamy has staunchly defended Trump against the multiple allegations he faces, even pledging to grant a pardon to the former president on his first day in office if elected.
Trump further described Ramaswamy as intelligent, talented, and possessing commendable energy. He suggested that Ramaswamy could play a role in some capacity, praising his distinction and impact. This development has garnered substantial attention since Trump is known for his verbal sparring with rivals, particularly those gaining traction or potentially overshadowing his own spotlight.
However, Trump did caution Ramaswamy about becoming too controversial, alluding to his policy stances on Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. Trump emphasised the importance of moderation, advising him to be cautious about certain positions.
Ramaswamy’s visibility has surged in the GOP primary polls, with him and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tying for the second position, though both trail behind Donald Trump’s commanding lead. In another poll by RealClearPolitics, Trump continues to maintain a substantial lead in the 2024 GOP race, while Ramaswamy secures notable support but remains behind. The upcoming US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024.
