slamabad: Pakistan has recorded a sharp 83 percent rise in terror attacks in the month of August, Geo news cited a report compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
Throughout the month, the country witnessed a significant spike in terrorist incidents, with a total of 99 recorded occurrences. This marks the highest number of attacks in a single month since November 2014, according to the data.
Comparing August to July, the data showed an 83% sharp increase in terrorist attacks, with July reporting 54 incidents. The PICSS report also noted the occurrence of four suicide attacks, with three in the tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and one in mainland KP.
July, on the other hand, witnessed the highest number of suicide attacks in a year, with a total of five recorded incidents. In the first eight months of 2023, the country experienced a total of 22 suicide attacks, resulting in the loss of 227 lives and injuries to 497 individuals.
The report highlighted that the regions most affected by terrorist activity in August were Balochistan and the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its splinter groups primarily targeted the province, taking responsibility for multiple attacks, which increased from three in July to five in August, as reported by Geo news.
Notably, the province of Punjab remained largely peaceful in August, with no reported extremist attacks. In July, a single low-intensity blast occurred outside a police station in Lahore, resulting in one injury.
