Tehran: The dental scientific conference in Iran was halted by authorities due to some female attendees not wearing hijab. Preparations for the conference occurred in Mashhad, Iran’s northeastern city.
In a video circulating on social media, the conference organizer offered apologies to attendees and requested that they vacate the venue. Meanwhile, media activist Hedi Kimiai claimed that police officers forcibly terminated the event and expelled all participants from the hall.
Approximately 600 dentists, including guests from South Korea, were present at the conference. Notably, the government has initiated an extensive campaign in recent months to enforce mandatory hijab restrictions on Iranian women and girls.
Additionally, a police commander in northern Gilan province disclosed that 1,094 business establishments were closed in the past five months for ‘non-compliance with Islamic law’.
