New Delhi: The UK’s intelligence agency has reported a tragic incident in the Yellow Sea, where 55 individuals lost their lives in a submarine crash. British intelligence officials are quoted in the report as stating that the fatalities resulted from hypoxia, a deficiency of oxygen, due to a system malfunction on the submarine. Among the deceased were 21 officers, including Colonel Xue Yong-Peng, who served as the captain of the Chinese PLA Navy submarine ‘093-417.’
According to reports from the UK’s Daily Mail, the accident occurred on August 21. China has not provided any additional information regarding the incident. The submarine carried a total of 55 individuals, including 22 officers, 7 cadets, 17 sailors, and 9 other officers. According to reports, the malfunction of the oxygen system occurred when the submarine collided with a chain and anchor obstacle utilized by the Chinese navy to ensnare submarines from the US and its allied submarines. As of now, there is no independent confirmation of the suspected loss of the Chinese submarine, and China has dismissed speculations surrounding the incident.
