Berlin: Germany has imposed a complete ban on Hamas and a pro-Palestine group that spreads anti-Israel and anti-Semitic views, according to Al Jazeera. The German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, announced the ban, emphasizing that Hamas has been classified as a “terrorist” organization within the country. Faeser stated, “With Hamas, I have today completely banned the activities of a terrorist organization whose aim is to destroy the state of Israel.”
In response to this decision, a Hamas official in Lebanon expressed that it indicated Germany’s alignment with Israel on actions against the Palestinian people, according to Al Jazeera. Osama Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Lebanon, remarked, “This prompts us to question whether the German political mentality is a Holocaust mentality that affects all peoples and is not limited to one party or another.”
Furthermore, Faeser confirmed that she is also prohibiting and dissolving the German branch of the Samidoun network, which she cited as “supporting and glorifying” various groups, including Hamas. Samidoun organized an event on October 7 where individuals shared pastries on a Berlin street to commemorate Hamas’s actions against Israel.
On October 7, Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel which have killed atleast 1400 people, most of them are civilians. The Israel-Hamas conflict has resulted in over 9,000 casualties, including 3,760 children, so far.
