London: A resolution was introduced in the London Assembly to address concerns over racial violence against Hindus in London. Krupesh Jadavji Hirani, a British-Indian and member of the London Assembly, has introduced a resolution addressing the concerning surge in racial violence targeting the Hindu community.
Hirani highlighted the increase in crimes targeting the Hindu community over the past year. During his address, he called upon the Metropolitan Police to take action against those responsible for these offenses. During his address, Hirani pointed out various instances of Hindu phobia and emphasised the need for immediate and effective measures to curb such incidents.
Quoting statistics from the UK Home Office, Hirani pointed out a significant increase in reported incidents, with 291 crimes committed against Hindus in the 2022–2023 period. This marks a substantial rise of 161 cases compared to the previous year. He advocated for collaboration between the Metropolitan Police Service and the Hindu community in London, emphasising the importance of fostering trust and partnership to address these issues effectively.
This resolution was presented ahead of the Diwali celebrations. Last weekend, the Hindu community gathered in a grand celebration of Diwali at London’s Trafalgar Square, attracting hundreds of attendees to the occasion.
