Kiev: Colonel Gennady Chistyakov, an advisor to the Chief of Army Staff of Ukraine, met a tragic end during his birthday celebration when a grenade exploded. The grenade was concealed within a gift box. Preliminary reports suggest that this may be a deliberate act of murder.
The incident took place as Chistyakov was showing the box of grenades to his son. As his son began to pull the ring of one of the boxes, Chistyakov intervened. In the process, the grenade detonated. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, who also serves as the acting Minister for the Interior, confirmed this.
Chistyakov’s 13-year-old son also sustained severe injuries. The police have identified the colleague who presented the gift, and two grenades were recovered from his possession. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
