Malaysia PM announces 30-day visa-free entry for travellers from Bharat

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Sunday that starting from December 1, travelers from Bharat and China will enjoy a 30-day visa-free entry into Malaysia, as reported by the Malay Mail based in Malaysia. Anwar disclosed this news during a speech at the People’s Justice Party congress, without specifying the duration of the visa exemption.

China and Bharat are among Malaysia’s key tourism markets, ranking fourth and fifth, respectively. Government data reveals that between January and June of this year, Malaysia welcomed 9.16 million tourists, with 498,540 arriving from China and 283,885 from Bharat. This marks a significant increase compared to the same period in 2019, pre-pandemic, when Malaysia received 1.5 million tourists from China and 354,486 from Bharat.

This decision aligns with a trend observed in neighbouring Thailand, where similar measures have been implemented to revitalize the tourism sector and stimulate economic growth. Notably, Chinese and Indian nationals are also among those exempted from visa requirements in Thailand this year.
