Buenos Aires: On Sunday, Javier Milei, the leader of the Freedom Advances party (La Libertad Avanza), officially assumed the role of President of Argentina after being elected. Milei, an economist and former political commentator, outlined his commitment to significant spending cuts during his election campaign, according to reports.
Former President Alberto Fernandez symbolically handed over the trappings of power—a sash and a baton—to the newly sworn-in President Javier Milei. In his inaugural address, President Milei emphasized the necessity of implementing bold economic measures, stating, “The new government will have to resort to shock measures in the economy. There is no alternative to spending cuts; no alternative to shock measures.”
Argentina’s presidential elections unfolded in two rounds, with the first held on October 22 and the decisive second round on November 19. The libertarian nominee from the Freedom Advances party emerged victorious, defeating the incumbent economy minister, Sergio Massa.
Javier Milei, gaining national prominence for his electoral triumph, has promised comprehensive reforms, including initiatives such as dollarization, to address the economic challenges faced by Argentina, as reported.
