Abu Dhabi: In a bid to enhance safety measures, Abu Dhabi police are set to enforce fines on individuals who exit their vehicles without turning off the engine. Drivers were initially issued warnings, and a fine of Dh500 (Rs 11,318) will now be imposed for violations. This measure comes in response to a rising trend of drivers leaving their engines running while carrying out activities such as purchasing household items, using ATMs, and refuelling at petrol stations.
Moreover, the police have noted a practice where parents leave their children unattended in vehicles while engaging in activities like shopping. Some individuals spend extended periods away from their parked cars, leaving children inside with the air conditioning on. The police also clarified that such negligence not only poses a risk to the safety of the children but also increases the likelihood of vehicle theft.
