New Delhi: Following Shane Watson’s announcement that he will not be taking on the coaching role for Pakistan’s national cricket team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is actively seeking a replacement, preferably from Australia.
Among the candidates under consideration is former Australian player Justin Langer, who is being eyed for the position of national team coach. However, if Justin Langer is unavailable, PCB is also considering South African coach Gary Kirsten, renowned for his contributions to South Africa’s World Cup triumph.
In addition to Justin Langer and Gary Keston, PCB has initiated contact with several other potential players. This list includes former Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Mike Hesson, another Australian cricketing legend, Matthew Hayden, England’s Eoin Morgan, and former West Indies player Phil Simmons. It is reported that one of these players will ultimately be selected to lead the Pakistan national team.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed a keen interest in hiring foreign coaches, emphasising the urgency of the situation with the upcoming T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy. Mohsin Naqvi has promised to swiftly appoint a coach to guide the team through these crucial tournaments.
