Mumbai: Former Indian cricket player Navjot Singh Sidhu has sparked a debate with his recent comments suggesting that Virat Kohli, the former captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), may not be able to lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) title this year. Navjot Singh’s remarks came after RCB’s loss against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the opening match of this IPL season, where CSK secured a six-wicket win over RCB.
According to Navjot Singh Sidhu, Kohli, often likened to a lion in terms of his prowess on the cricket field, cannot single-handedly carry his team to victory. Navjot Singh emphasised that cricket is a team game and Kohli requires support from his teammates, which he feels RCB currently lacks.
Drawing comparisons between Kohli’s leadership and that of CSK’s former captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Navjot Singh Sidhu highlighted the team effort exhibited by CSK players. He noted that CSK possesses the right players in every position, which allows them to function effectively as a unit. In contrast, Navjot Singh pointed out that RCB lacks a solid team structure, with players seeming scattered and unable to perform consistently.
Furthermore, Navjot Singh criticised RCB’s bowling department, suggesting that they lack a quality spinner capable of taking crucial wickets. He specifically mentioned that Karan Sharma, RCB’s spinner, has not been able to make a significant impact.
