Ahmedabad: Mumbai faced a disappointing loss against Gujarat, which sparked a wave of criticism aimed at their captain, Hardik Pandya. Some decisions taken by the captain during the match have raised questions among fans and former cricket stars alike. Among those decisions was placing former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma in the boundary while fielding and coming to bat at seventh wicket while chasing.
Former cricket player Irfan Pathan was among those who weighed in on Hardik’s decisions. He particularly questioned the captain’s choice not to face Rashid Khan, as Tim David was promoted ahead of him to bat after the loss of the fourth wicket. Irfan Pathan suggested that Hardik’s lack of interest in facing Rashid could be attributed to his decision.
In the crucial chase of 169 runs against Gujarat, Hardik entered the crease after Mumbai lost their seventh wicket. With 27 runs needed from just 12 balls, the pressure was on the captain to finish the game. Hardik managed to score 11 runs off four balls but was caught at long on in the fifth ball, ultimately sealing Gujarat’s victory by six runs and handing Mumbai their first loss of the season.
