Mumbai: Recent developments in Indian cricket have brought Ishan Kishan’s future into focus, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jai Shah reportedly engaged in discussions with the player. This meeting took place after the Mumbai Indians-Gujarat Titans match.
The discussions come in the wake of Kishan’s withdrawal from the series against South Africa, citing mental stress. The BCCI released Kishan from his central contract after he declined to participate in the Ranji Trophy, despite receiving instructions from the board to do so.
With his contract not yet renewed by the BCCI, Kishan’s prospects for the national team remain uncertain. The possibility of his inclusion in all three formats has dwindled, according to national media reports. However, it’s speculated that Ishan Kishan may regain his contract if he plays enough matches post-IPL and demonstrates commendable performance in the tournament.
While the BCCI did not provide a specific explanation for dropping Kishan from his contract, his decision to opt out of the Ranji Trophy further complicated matters. Moreover, Kishan’s absence from the national team selection process after returning home during the South Africa tour added to the friction.
The BCCI expressed disappointment over Kishan’s reluctance to represent Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy after being omitted from the Indian team. Additionally, the central contract of another prominent player, Shreyas Iyer, has not been yet renewed by the BCCI.
