Chennai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Sameer Rizvi delivered a brief yet impactful performance and credited former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his guidance. Rizvi, playing in only his second IPL match, showcased his talent with a six-ball, 14-run knock, which included two powerful sixes against Rashid Khan.
Reflecting on Dhoni’s advice, Rizvi shared insights from a video on IPLT20.com, where he revealed Dhoni’s encouragement to play his natural game. “Bhaiya (Dhoni) told me to play how I generally play since it is all about the actual gameplay,” said Rizvi. “He said, ‘There is nothing different. Skills remain the same, and it’s all just about mindset. Never take any pressure or be nervous, and play as per the situation.”
Sameer Rizvi expressed his elation at being picked up by CSK during the auction for a significant sum of Rs 8.4 crore, emphasizing his dream of meeting Dhoni coming true. Grateful for the opportunity to learn from Dhoni and the support staff during net sessions, Rizvi aims to continue learning and performing to the best of his abilities.
With decent T20 statistics, including 309 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 137.33, Sameer Rizvi showcased his potential as a promising young talent. Explaining his choice of jersey number, Sameer Rizvi revealed, “My jersey number is seven, which is currently worn by Mahi Bhaiya, and I can’t get it. So, I liked the number one, and I took it.”
Sameer Rizvi also highlighted the positive atmosphere within the CSK dressing room, emphasising the team’s camaraderie and support for one another. He expressed gratitude for the encouragement received from teammates and emphasized the importance of learning from experienced players to enhance his skills for future endeavors.
