India won the toss and chose to bowl first. West Indies lost its first wicket of opener John Campbell on the second ball of the first over. The West Indies collapsed after losing the wicket of Evin Lewis by staying in the second over.
The 26-year-old Navdeep Saini claimed three wickets for 17 runs to help India restrict the West Indies to 95 for 9 after being put to bat. India then chased down the target with 2.4 overs to spare for a 4-wicket win.
In reply, Shikhar Dhawan who had recovered from an injury, was dismissed after scoring a single run. Rohit Sharma hit two boundaries and two sixes. and became the top scorer. Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey scored 19 runs each. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar eventually took India across the line in the 18th over.
For West Indies, Sheldon Cottrell, Sunil Narine and Keemo Paul picked up a couple of wickets each.
