London: Indian tennis stalwart Rohan Bopanna has soared to a career-high world No. 7 in the latest ATP Rankings for doubles. This remarkable achievement marks Bopanna’s highest ranking since 2013, reflecting his recent outstanding performances on the court.
Bopanna, alongside his Australian partner Mattew Ebden, recently advanced to the semifinals of the Men’s doubles event at Wimbledon 2023. This impressive feat has propelled the Indian tennis player’s ranking by five places, cementing his position among the elite doubles players in the world.
The 43-year-old Bopanna began the 2023 season ranked 19th. However, he encountered a knee injury in 2022 that forced him to withdraw from several tournaments, including the prestigious Davis Cup. Despite this setback, the seasoned player has showcased remarkable form this year.
In March, Rohan Bopanna achieved a significant milestone by winning the Indian Wells Masters alongside Edben. Their victory made Bopanna the oldest ATP Masters 1000 winner in history, adding another remarkable achievement to his illustrious career. Furthermore, Bopanna and Ebden emerged victorious at the Qatar Open in February and reached the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, the Madrid Open, in May.
Throughout the year, Bopanna has demonstrated his prowess on the court, accumulating a commendable 26-15 win-loss record in men’s doubles competitions. This year alone, he has participated in five finals, showcasing his consistency and skill. Notably, Bopanna alongside Sania Mirza, reached the mixed doubles final at the 2023 Australian Open, further highlighting his versatility as a player.
In the ATP Singles Rankings, the highest-ranked Indian tennis player is Sumit Nagal, currently placed at world No. 231. While Bopanna’s expertise lies in doubles, his remarkable rise in the rankings is a testament to his dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the sport.
