Yeosu ,Korea: In a closely contested match, India’s badminton sensation P. V. Sindhu faced a setback as she lost to Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei in the second round of the Korea Open Super 500 badminton tournament on Wednesday. The thrilling encounter saw Sindhu put up a valiant effort, but ultimately, Pai Yu Po emerged victorious with a scoreline of 18-21, 21-10, and 13-21 after battling it out for 58 minutes on the court.
Despite Sindhu’s best efforts, she couldn’t maintain her momentum throughout the match, allowing the Taiwanese player to secure her victory and progress to the next stage of the tournament.
In a contrasting performance, rising star Priyanshu Rajawat showcased his potential as he progressed to the second round with a dominating straight-game win over local player Choi Ji Hoon. The world number 32 and recent Orleans Masters winner, Rajawat, comfortably defeated Choi 21-15, 21-19, in just 42 minutes, setting up a thrilling clash with top seed Kodai Naraoka of Japan in the subsequent round.
On the other hand, Kiran George faced disappointment in his opening match as he failed to overcome the challenge posed by Chinese Taipei’s Wang Tzu Wei. George displayed his skills, but Wang Tzu Wei proved to be too strong, defeating him with a score of 17-21, 9-21.
In the mixed doubles category, the Indian duo of B. Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa also encountered defeat in their opening round. They fought hard against the Korean pair of Song Hyun Cho and Lee Jung Hyun but were unable to secure a victory, succumbing to a scoreline of 21-23, 21-13, and 12-21.
