Yeosu, Korea: In a breathtaking display of skill and determination, Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched the prestigious Korea Open 2023 men’s doubles title by defeating the world no. 1 Indonesian duo, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, in a thrilling three-game final. Satwik-Chirag wins the Korean Open for the first time.
The Indian shuttlers faced a tough challenge in the opening game, as they conceded it 17-21 to the formidable Indonesian pair. However, undeterred by the early setback, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty launched a spectacular comeback, roaring back to win the next two games with scores of 21-13 and 21-14, respectively. Their tenacity and precision in the latter stages of the match left their opponents reeling, securing the victory and the coveted Korea Open title.
This triumph marks the third Super 500 title of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s careers, following their previous victories at the Thailand Open 2019 and Yonex Sunrise India Open 2022. Additionally, the Indian duo has claimed their third BWF World Tour title in 2023, adding to their earlier successes at the Swiss Open 2023 (Super 300) and Indonesia Open 2023 (Super 1000) earlier this year.
