Chennai: Sakshi Dhoni, the wife of former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is all set to make her debut as a film producer with the Tamil movie “Let’s Get Married,” slated for a worldwide theatrical release on July 28. Produced under the banner of Dhoni Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the film is helmed by debutant director Ramesh Thamilmani and features Harish Kalyan and Ivana in the lead roles, alongside a stellar ensemble cast, including Nadiya Moidu, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, RJ Vijay, Srinath, Deepa Shankar, Vinodhini Vaidynathan, Pujitha Devaraju, Venkat Prabhu, and others. As the film’s release date approaches, Sakshi Dhoni and the team have been actively promoting the project, interacting with the media at a press meet in Chennai on Tuesday.
During the press meet, Sakshi Dhoni disclosed that her husband, MS Dhoni, is open to the idea of stepping into the role of a hero on the silver screen, but only if the script is compelling. She expressed, “If there’s something good, he might do it.” The former Indian cricket captain is no stranger to facing the camera, having featured in numerous advertisements since 2006, showcasing his comfort in front of the lens. Sakshi further highlighted Dhoni’s inclination towards the action genre, stating, “He is not camera shy. He is always in action, and he might consider doing a film if there’s a good opportunity in the action genre.”
Additionally, Sakshi revealed that MS Dhoni’s emotional bond with the people of Tamil Nadu played a significant role in his choosing to debut in the Tamil film industry with Let’s Get Married. During the trailer launch event, she emphasised that the people of Tamil Nadu had embraced Dhoni as one of their own, making it a heartfelt and strategic decision to commence their production journey with a small-budget film. She stated, “We were clear that we would start with something small first. That’s the way to go. Like a child would not start walking immediately. It has to learn. That applies to us as well. Also, we wanted to start in Tamil because we have an emotional connection with people here. Language has never been a problem for us. We have started a company that will last a long time. So, we want to begin from here. When we look back, we want this to be our starting point. We will know where we came from.”
Let’s Get Married director Ramesh Thamilmani also shared his enthusiasm for the idea of MS Dhoni starring in a superhero film, calling him a “real-life superhero.” The prospect of witnessing Dhoni portray a heroic character on the big screen has generated excitement among fans and cinephiles alike.
