Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Celebrated pole vaulter Thiago Braz, who achieved glory by clinching the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, has been provisionally suspended from competition after testing positive for doping, according to an announcement made by the Athletic Integrity Unit (AIU) on Friday.
The AIU, responsible for safeguarding the integrity of athletics, revealed that the 29-year-old Brazilian athlete’s test returned a positive result for the presence or use of Ostarine, a banned substance under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations. In light of the adverse finding, Braz has been temporarily suspended from all competitions and activities related to athletics.
The provisional suspension comes into effect immediately, and Braz will remain barred from participating in any athletic event until a final decision is reached at a hearing conducted under either the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules or the Integrity Code of Conduct. During this process, the AIU will thoroughly investigate the matter and assess the evidence before making a definitive ruling on the doping violation.
