Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has garnered a substantial income of Rs 27,411 crore over the course of the last five years. Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, unveiled these figures for the years 2018 to 2022 during a session in the Rajya Sabha. The disclosure came in response to a query posed by MP Anil Desai from the Uddhav Thackeray side.
The impressive amount was accrued by the BCCI through various sources, including broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and fees received from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Anil Desai’s query extended to matters of expenditure and taxation as well.
In response, Pankaj Chaudhary highlighted that in the financial year 2020–21, BCCI paid an income tax of Rs 844.92 crore. This figure aligns with previous reports indicating that the board had paid a significant sum of Rs 1159 crore in taxes during the preceding financial year. Furthermore, the Minister of State for Finance disclosed that over the past five years, BCCI’s total contribution towards income tax amounted to a staggering Rs 4298 crore.
A breakdown of the tax payments over the years reveals that in the financial year 2019-20, BCCI remitted Rs 882.29 crore in taxes. In the year prior, 2018–19, the board had directed Rs 815.08 crore towards tax payments.
