Hangzhou: The Hangzhou Asian Games kicked off with an electrifying clash between India and China in the men’s football competition, with half time ending in a thrilling 1-1 draw. The encounter at the Hangzhou Stadium on Tuesday showcased top-notch talent and left spectators on the edge of their seats.
In a highly anticipated match, the home side, China, drew first blood when Gao Tianyi found the back of the net in the 17th minute. The packed stadium erupted in celebration as the local hero put his team in the lead, sending a wave of enthusiasm throughout Hangzhou.
However, it was the Keralite sensation, Rahul K. P., who stole the spotlight for India. Just when it seemed China would enter halftime with a one-goal advantage, Rahul K. P. delivered a moment of brilliance. In added time, he managed to equalise with a spectacular finish, catching the Chinese defence off guard and silencing the home crowd.
The excitement didn’t end there. The Chinese team had an opportunity to take the lead once more when they were awarded a penalty. Chinese captain Zhu Chenjie stepped up to the spot with the hopes of doubling the lead. However, Indian goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh emerged as the hero for his team as he made an impressive save, denying Zhu Chenjie’s powerful strike. The save was met with cheers from the Indian supporters and disappointment from the Chinese faithful.
