Hangzhou: Bharat has etched its name in sporting history, securing a total of 107 medals—the highest in the history of the Asian Games. The nation’s performance includes a remarkable tally of 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze medals, positioning India as the fourth-leading country in the medal table.
The 14th and final day of the Asian Games 2023 saw Bharat clinch six gold medals. The standout victories came in events such as shooting and athletics, where Indian athletes showcased their prowess by bagging a total of 28 medals. The official closing ceremony, scheduled for today, marks the end of India’s dazzling display on the international sporting stage.
Among the notable victories, India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra demonstrated his skill by retaining the gold medal in the javelin throw with an impressive distance of 88.88m. Tajinderpal Singh Toor replicated this success by securing gold in shot put, while Avinash Sah achieved a Games record in the men’s 3000m steeplechase.
The Indian badminton team also emerged as a stronghold for India, with historic achievement resulting in a gold medal. The prowess of Indian teams was evident in cricket and kabaddi as well, where both the men’s and women’s teams secured gold. Additionally, the nation’s hockey and archery teams exhibited commendable performances, adding to the multitude of achievements.
India’s exceptional performance in Hangzhou surpasses its previous best in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, where Bharat hauled 70 medals.
