Ahmedabad: As the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan World Cup cricket match would take place on October 14 in Ahmedabad, stringent security arrangements are being put in place to ensure a smooth and safe event. Over 11,000 personnel from various agencies, including the Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF, and home guards, will be deployed in the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Despite the fact that Ahmedabad has not experienced communal violence during cricket matches over the past two decades, security forces will be strategically placed in potentially sensitive areas as a precautionary measure, as mentioned by Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police G. S. Malik.
Earlier in the day, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting with Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, state DGP Vikas Sahay, G S Malik, and other senior police officers in Gandhinagar to review the police’s action plan for ensuring the high-profile sports event unfolds without any issues.
To bolster security, more than 7,000 police personnel and nearly 4,000 home guards will be deployed to secure the stadium and maintain law and order in potentially sensitive areas of the city during the match. The security setup also includes three ‘hit teams’ and one anti-drone team from the NSG, along with nine teams from the bomb detection and disposal squad.
Supervision on match day will be overseen by four senior IPS officers at the inspector general and deputy inspector general ranks, along with 21 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officers providing guidance to the deployed personnel.
In addition to 13 companies of the state reserve police (SRP), three companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) will be part of the security arrangement, specifically monitoring potentially sensitive areas in the city.
