Hangzhou: Indian para athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, making the nation proud and achieving a historic milestone of 100 medals.
Dilip Gavit secured a gold medal in the men’s 400-metre T-47 event. Meanwhile, Pooja added to India’s medal tally by clinching a bronze in the women’s 1500m T-20 event. In the men’s javelin throw, Neeraj Yadav’s brilliant throw of 33.69m earned him a gold medal, while Thek Chand secured the bronze with a throw of 30.30m.
Sheetal Devi’s extraordinary performance in women’s archery brought home another gold medal for India and made her the first Indian woman to win two Asian Para Games gold for the country. As of now, Indian athletes have won an impressive total of 28 gold, 31 silver, and 49 bronze medals.
In chess, Indian paralympic athletes Ashwin, Darpan, and Soundarya Pradhan have each secured a gold medal in the men’s individual chess category. Their victories added a significant boost to India’s medal count.
This achievement at the Asian Para Games breaks India’s past success at the 2018 Para Games in Jakarta, where India secured a total of 72 medals, including an impressive 15 gold, 24 silver, and 33 bronze medals.
