Mumbai: The Gujarat Titans (GT) announced on Monday that the talented Indian batter Shubman Gill will take on the role of captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. This decision comes in the wake of Hardik Pandya’s return to the Mumbai Indians (MI).
According to a statement released by the Gujarat Titans, the team is confident in Gill’s leadership abilities, citing his impressive track record and cricketing prowess. Gill, who has amassed 1373 runs in 33 innings at an impressive average of 47.34, has three centuries and eight fifties to his name. His stellar performance in the last season earned him the Orange Cap, as he scored a remarkable 890 runs in 17 matches, with three centuries and four fifties.
The opener played a pivotal role in the Gujarat Titans’ remarkable journey in the IPL since their debut. Notably, in the previous season, Gill showcased his batting brilliance by smashing 129 runs off 60 balls against the Mumbai Indians, marking the highest individual score by a batter in the IPL playoffs.
Expressing his delight and pride at being appointed captain, Shubman Gill stated, “I am delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of the Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team.
