Mumbai: In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, former Rajasthan Royals player, S. Sreesanth, expressed his opinion on the captaincy situation in the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team. The Keralite cricketer is urging for a change in leadership, suggesting that Sanju Samson be relieved of his captaincy role and England’s Jos Buttler should be appointed as the captain for the upcoming season.
Sreesanth emphasised Buttler’s credentials, citing his captaincy role in England when the team lifted T20 World Cup. The former player believes that Buttler’s experience as the captain of a championship-winning team makes him a strong candidate to lead the Rajasthan Royals effectively.
The cricketer-turned-commentator reminisced about his time with the Rajasthan Royals, highlighting the team’s past success under the leadership of Rahul Dravid. Sreesanth praised Dravid’s long-term vision and strategic game, considering him the best captain he has played under.
Expressing concerns about Sanju Samson’s leadership, Sreesanth stated that if Samson continues as captain, he should approach the responsibility more seriously. Alternatively, he suggested handing over the captaincy to Buttler, emphasizing the need for a consistent and proven leader, akin to the success achieved by players like Rohit Sharma.
Sreesanth questioned the reliability of a captain whose form is inconsistent, asking, “How can you trust a captain whose form is based on just one game?”
