Mumbai: In a historic move, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has initiated efforts to host matches of the 2034 FIFA World Cup in Bharat. Saudi Arabia, the designated host for the World Cup, is currently engaged in discussions with the AIFF, and active negotiations are underway.
The AIFF aims to secure the hosting of at least 10 matches during the tournament, with a minimum target of conducting five matches even if the number is subject to adjustment. The circular received by AIFF members, as per AIFF chief Kalyan Chaubey’s statement, outlines the organization’s intention to bring the World Cup matches to Bharat.
The circular further reveals that discussions have commenced with Saudi Arabia, and the AIFF is awaiting further decisions from their end. With 48 teams participating in the 2034 World Cup, a total of 104 matches are expected to take place.
