New Delhi: The Union Sports Ministry has taken the decision to suspend the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI)’s governing body under the leadership of recently elected president Sanjay Singh. This official move, announced on December 24, comes in response to what the Ministry deems as hasty decisions made by the newly elected body, showing a complete disregard for existing rules and regulations.
The Ministry, in an official release, highlighted the breach of protocol by the WFI’s newly elected president. Sanjay Singh had announced on December 21 that the U-15 and U-20 nationals would be held in Nandini Nagar, Gonda (UP) before the end of the year. The Ministry argued that this announcement was in violation of the rules, as a 15-day notice was required to allow players adequate time for preparation.
“We have not terminated the Federation but suspended it until further orders. The new body has not followed the WFI constitution. They just need to follow the due process and the rules,” explained a Sports Ministry official.
