Centurion: On the opening day of the first Test match against South Africa in Centurion, Virat Kohli, the star batter for Bharat, achieved another milestone by becoming the highest run-scorer for Bharat in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2019-2025. According to reports, Kohli surpassed former captain Rohit Sharma to claim this distinction, amassing 2101 runs in 57 innings, while Rohit had scored 2097 runs in 42 innings.
Cheteshwar Pujara secured the third spot on the list with 1769 runs in 62 innings, followed by Ajinkya Rahane with 1589 runs in 49 innings and Rishabh Pant with 1575 runs in 41 innings.
However, in the Test series against South Africa, Kohli had a challenging start in Bharat’s first inning, contributing 38 runs from 64 balls at a strike rate of 59.38. The 35-year-old managed to hit five fours against the Proteas’ bowling attack but fell victim to Kagiso Rabada in the 30.6 overs.
Rain played spoilsport on the first day of the test series, leading to the majority of the third session being ruled out at the SuperSport Park. By the end of Day 1, Bharat posted a total of 208/8 in 59 overs, with KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj remaining unbeaten with scores of 70 (105)* and 0 (10)*, respectively.
KL Rahul showcased resilience, leading the fight against Kagiso Rabada while the other batters struggled. Siraj, too, demonstrated patience during the 10 balls he faced. The lone casualty in the final session was Jasprit Bumrah, who lost his patience and ultimately his wicket to Marco Jansen after facing 19 balls.
