Centurion: In a remarkable performance during the Boxing Day Test, KL Rahul played a crucial role in bolstering Bharat’s first-inning score. Rahul’s innings included 101 runs from 137 balls, featuring 14 fours and four sixes, and he was eventually dismissed later. By this century, he became the second wicketkeeper batsman to score a century in South Africa after Rishabh Pant.
Rahul emerged as the backbone for the Indian cricket team, stepping up to stabilise the innings and helping to steady the innings that Rabada’s exceptional performance had disrupted.
His century in Centurion was completed by hitting a powerful six from Gerald Coetzee’s bowl. Rahul initiated a rescue operation when Bharat found themselves at a precarious 126/6. The tailenders contributed significantly, fortifying the Indian innings.
Rabada was the chief architect of Bharat’s batting woes, claiming five wickets while conceding 59 runs in 20 overs. Apart from Rabada, Burger took four wickets, Marco Jansen claimed one, and Coetzee secured one wicket. After Bharat was bowled out for 245 runs, our pacers took charge. Mohammed Siraj made an early breakthrough by dismissing Aiden Markram for five runs.
