Bhubaneswar: Kerala Blasters, the current table topper of the ISL 2023–24 seasons, commenced their Kalinga Super Cup campaign with a commanding 3-1 triumph over I-League contenders Shillong Lajong at Kaling Pitch 1 in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
Kwame Peprah emerged as the star of the game, securing an early goal that propelled the ‘Yellow Army’ into the lead. His first goal, a clinical finish in the 14th minute, came after connecting with a defence-splitting pass from Dimitrios Diamantakos.
However, Shillong Lajong exhibited resilience, and in the 28th minute, striker Karim earned a penalty for Shillong Lajong after being brought down in the box by Sachin Suresh. Captain Renan Paulinho calmly converted the penalty, narrowing the deficit before the halftime break.
The second half saw the Kerala Blasters continue their dominance, with Aimen rising high in the box to powerfully head in Daisuke’s inch-perfect cross from the right flank, securing a 3-1 lead in the 47th minute.
