Melbourne: The dynamic duo in tennis, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, triumphed in a thrilling three-set encounter against ZZ Zhang and Tomas Machac in the semi-final, earning them a spot in the men’s doubles final at the Australian Open 2024. The match, held at the Rod Laver Arena on Thursday, concluded with Bopanna and Ebden securing victory with a scoreline of 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

The Indo-Aussie pair exhibited dominance in the opening set, clinching it 6-3 over China’s Zhang and the Czech’s Machac. However, their opponents made a strong comeback in the second set, securing it with a score of 3-6. Undeterred, they mounted a successful comeback in the third set, ultimately prevailing 7-6 and securing their place in the prestigious Australian Open final.

This victory marks Bopanna and Ebden’s second consecutive Grand Slam final appearance, after their impressive run to the final at the 2023 US Open. The pair showcased remarkable teamwork and resilience throughout the match, demonstrating their prowess on the court.

In a remarkable achievement, Rohan Bopanna, at the age of 43, has attained the coveted World No. 1 ranking in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) men’s doubles category. The Indian tennis player, partnered with Australia’s Matthew Ebden, achieved this milestone after a convincing 6-4, 7-6 (5) win against Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Australian Open.
