Hyderabad: According to a report, England’s prolific batsman Joe Root surpassed cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run scorer in Bharat-England Test matches. He achieved this millstone during the series opener against Rohit Sharma-led Bharat at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
Needing just 10 runs to surpass Tendulkar’s record of 2,535 runs in 32 matches against England, Root achieved this milestone in the 21st over of the match. With a boundary off Axar Patel, the 33-year-old English batter not only outshone Tendulkar’s record but also accumulated a total of 2,555 runs in 48 matches.
Root further etched his name in the history of the World Test Championship by becoming the first batsman to breach the 4,000-run mark, amassing an impressive 4,016 runs from 48 Tests.
Despite his monumental achievement, Root’s innings in the ongoing first Test against Bharat concluded after scoring 29 runs off 60 balls as he tried a sweep shot from Ravindra Jadeja’s bowl and was caught on the short fine leg.
