Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Blasters FC, the leading team in the Indian Super League (ISL) table, faces a setback as forward Kwame Peprah is ruled out for the rest of the 2023–24 season. The news follows a groin injury sustained during the Kalinga Super Cup match against Jamshedpur FC.
The unfortunate injury occurred during the match against Jamshedpur FC, where Peprah played the full 90 minutes. Despite his absence in the final group game of the Kalinga Super Cup, the Ghanaian forward had earlier displayed top form by netting a brace in Kerala Blasters FC’s 3-1 victory against Shillong Lajong FC.
Reports suggest that Emmanuel Justine, a Nigerian player, is expected to step in as a replacement for the beloved striker in the upcoming second phase of the ISL season. The player, who joined Gokulam FC on August 31 last year, is set to mark his presence at KBFC, likely on February 2nd.
Peprah, who joined the Blasters for the current season, had previously showcased his skills in the top football divisions of Ghana, South Africa, and Israel. Despite initial challenges adjusting to his new environment in Bharat, the young forward gained confidence over time.
His performance included scoring his first ISL goal against Chennaiyin FC in his eighth appearance. With two goals and an assist in 12 ISL matches, Peprah propelled the Blasters to the top of the ISL table. Peprah also made crucial contributions in the Blasters’ recent league games.
