Lucknow: Deepti Sharma, a prominent player in the women’s cricket team, has been honoured with the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by the Uttar Pradesh government. The honour was conferred in recognition of her consistent and commendable performances in women’s cricket. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur jointly presented Deepti Sharma with her appointment letter and a cheque of Rs. 3 crore.
Expressing her gratitude for the government’s acknowledgement, Deepti Sharma conveyed her confidence in inspiring the women’s cricket team further through her role as DSP. The felicitation event also recognised other accomplished sportspeople. Jatin Kushwaha and Yash Kumar, participants in the Para Asian Games, were awarded Rs. 5 lakh each. Snooker champion Paras Gupta and Rifle shooting Aayushi Gupta received awards for their outstanding achievements in the National Games.
Deepti Sharma’s journey in sports commenced in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, where she started to show her dedication towards sport at a young age. Balancing her education with a passion for cricket, Deepti Sharma has achieved notable success, clinching a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in China and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
