Thiruvananthapuram: Cricket coach and former director of the Pakistan cricket team, Mickey Arthur, has openly criticised the current performance of Pakistani players, alleging a self-centred approach in their games. Arthur, who served as the coach of the Pakistan team from 2016 to 2019 and later took on the role of team director, expressed his concerns about the lack of passion and unity among the players.
Arthur states that young players in the team seem to be driven by selfish interests rather than a collective goal for the team’s success.
“I still follow Pakistani cricket. They have no passion for cricket. They are going through a bad situation,” Arthur commented.
Arthur highlighted that when players feel insecure in the cricketing environment, they often concentrate on personal benefits like the next tour and contracts. This shift can negatively affect the team’s unity and cause players to prioritise individual performance over teamwork.
Mickey Arthur’s tenure as the head coach came to an end last year when he and his support staff were dismissed by Pakistani management after losing the World Cup. Since then, he has continued to observe the team’s performance and is now vocal about the challenges he perceives within the squad.
