Thiruvananthapuram: Mumbai Indians head coach, Mark Boucher, has revealed the reason behind the decision to remove Rohit Sharma from the team’s captaincy. According to reports, Boucher said that the move aimed to reduce the pressure on Sharma as a batter, considering his recent performance in the last few IPL seasons.
Boucher emphasised the team’s desire to retain Sharma as a player, recognising his valuable contributions despite his recent batting struggles. He said that the decision was made after consulting with the entire Mumbai Indians group, offering Sharma an opportunity to focus solely on his batting in his final years.
Boucher hopes that stepping down as IPL captain will let Sharma play without pressure and perform well with the bat. Despite the attention and pressure, Boucher thinks Sharma’s experience and leadership will still be important for the Mumbai Indians and the Indian team.
Regarding Pandya’s return, Boucher highlighted his commendable leadership skills during his tenure with the Gujarat Titans, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Mumbai Indians effectively.
The Reliance-owned franchise, Mumbai Indians, has done an ‘all-cash trade’, reclaiming all-rounder Hardik Pandya after his successful season with the Gujarat Titans. Pandya has been appointed as the new skipper, replacing Sharma, who led the team to five IPL titles.
